Oh man, is it ever cold. Went to the beach for a swim and it's still too cold. Maybe next week.
HBO ran all the George Carlin shows in a row so I recorded them and have been watching them bit by bit. Good times.
I finally gave up on Call of Duty 4. I made it to level 55 on the multiplayer, but I was still the worst player in nearly every game. So I admitted to myself that I sucked, and would always suck. Now I'm fooling around with Half-Life 2. This is an entertaining game, it looks great, and whapping things with the gravity gun is fun. But those "head crabs" are the dumbest videogame monsters I've ever seen. They look like walking roasted turkeys. And sometimes I get frustrated because it's hard to figure out where to go next. Oh, I'm supposed to move across that steel girder, jump to that other one, cross it, then jump down onto that dumpster. That only took me thirty minutes to figure out.
At last I have finished the "Winning of America" series. Put down book number 6 today. I feel liberated. I very much enjoyed the first three. The fourth was OK, but they definitely declined in quality towards the end. Six hundred pages for the Chicago massacre, and five hundred for the pathetic Black Hawk war? Too much. I saw that they discovered a really cool fossil of a fish with legs! And I'm ready for a change from history, so I think I'll start on At the Water's Edge. It's less than 250 pages, should be able to knock it out in a day, maybe two.
